Odd-Geir Sæther mottok Foreningen Norske Filmfotografers første ærespris 12. januar. Sæther jobbet som fotograf for blant andre Arne Skouen og Pål Løkkeberg, og arbeidet hans fikk også internasjonal oppmerksomhet.

Spesielt fotografiet i den moderne klassikeren EDVARD MUNCH (Peter Watkins, 1974) vakte oppsikt. Arthaus er stolte over å kunne presentere en ny kopi av denne filmen for første gang på norske kinoer til høsten.

Sæther er i tillegg aktuell for tiden fordi han er en av fotografene som jobbet på David Lynch` siste film INLAND EMPIRE som hadde premiere på Venezia filmfestival 2006. INLAND EMPIRE venter fremdeles på norsk kinodistribusjon.

I anledning æresprisen sa EDVARD MUNCH-regissør Peter Watkins dette om Sæther:

?He is one of the very finest photographers I have ever worked with. His work on EDVARD MUNCH and LA COMMUNE were (and remain) truly amazing, and very innovative. It is a scandal - and one for which our profession should be truly ashamed - that his talents have remained almost unused since the 1970s. Certainly, his work has been recognized, but he has not been used.

The work that he could have achieved - the photographic steps he could have taken, the creative vistas he could have explored - are all too sad to consider when we realize that they mostly remain unexplored. Let's sincerely hope that your award will change this, and bring greater awareness of a genuine talent, including in your own country.?
