In connection with the Amanda Awards Ceremony on 20 August in Haugesund, the Amanda Committee today held a press conference in Oslo during which the 2010 nominations for Amanda, the Norwegian film award, were announced.
As many as five juries, consisting of a total of 21 persons chosen by the film industry organisations, have considered this year's films for the Amanda Award, which is presented for the 26th time this year. The juries that have examined the Norwegian theatrical releases have been led by Ingjerd Egeberg.
Over the last few years, Amanda has been extended with several new categories. A new one this year is an Amanda for Best Visual Effects, as well as a special Children's Film Awards, with a target group of children up to the age of twelve. 21 Norwegian films have received a theatrical release during the last year, and are therefore eligible for the award.
- This year's films range from terrifying horror movies and splatter films to deeply personal portraits, Jury President Ingjerd Egeberg says. - Perhaps the most noticable characteristic of this film year is the strong position of the children's film. The number of productions in this category are almost doubled compared to the last Amanda year. The children's films have also achieved the greatest box office success, a good sign for the upcoming increase of support for this genre. We are therefore very happy to have a special children's film award to present this year, the Jury President states.
As to presiding over the Amanda juries, Ingjerd Egeberg tells us that it must be one of the most fun jury services in existence. - It is a great privilege to use a lot of time to watch Norwegian movies, and to have a good excuse for it. I also get to meet people I respect a lot from this intensely engaging industry and to have meaningful conversations with them about something I regard as the ultimate art form, the Jury President says.
Ingjerd Egeberg also emphasises the importance of this art form to regular people. - Movies have enjoyed, and still do, a position as the foremost popular art form. No other artistic expression recruits an audience of all ages and in such large numbers as movies. As a consequence there is a great responsibility to bring quality to the people, something that we who serve on the juries are allowed to reward, Egeberg says.
- We would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the Amanda juries and Jury President Ingjerd Egeberg for their effort during the nomination process, Gunnar Johan Løvvik, Festival Director and Chairman of the Amanda Committee, says. - The juries, with Ms. Egeberg at the helm, have done a great job, Løvvik says.
The 26th Amanda Awards Ceremony will be shown live on TV 2 from Haugesund Concert Hall on Friday 20 August and is part of the Norwegian International Film Festival, which takes place 18–26 August 2010.
