Abe is a plump, chronically lonesome thirty-something devoid of social antennas. He lives with his parents and nothing in his life indicates that it will ever change.
But, one day, when Abe, in an inexplicably brave move, manage to ask the equally hopeless Miranda for her telephone number, both he and his parents see a light at the end of the tunnel. The question is just whether the light is from a train, a meteor or an upcoming stroke. In Dark Horse Todd Solondz depicts a Hollywood comedy stock character – the ageing, socially inept loner who never grew up – with the same well articulated misanthropy and pitch black humour that have fascinated audiences all over the world since Welcome to the Dollhouse in 1995.
