From the gray Norwegian everyday life of the 1970s to an existence among Trinidad’s international business circles – that’s a far step indeed.
Sonia Mo has a hard time adjusting to her new position as «trophy wife» with servants, country clubbing and gin & tonics before lunch. Alienated, deprived all authority and far away from home, it is hard to keep the balance.
Maria Sødahl’s long-awaited debut film is a nuanced, mature drama grounded in solid performances. Lena Endre and Bryan Brown are subtle as Sonia’s new friends in her new world. Still,
Limbo is primarily the Norwegian actors’ film. Line Verndal handles the transition from TV to the big screen with bravura, and Henrik Rafaelsen, as her well-meaning but stumbling husband, proves in his first major role that he truly is a name for the future.
