Although
Music for One Apartment and Six Drummers did not win the Cannes official short film competition in 2001, it has gradually become a bona fide modern classic in its field.
Through the years, moreover, neither characters nor creators have quite been able to let go of this eccentric activist movement, as perpetrated by a group of angry musical instigators at war with «all the crap music out there». In this «prequel» (labelled as such by the authors) the story of the origin of the group is unveiled as they set out on their great mission and immediately find themselves at odds with the law. Echoes of Hitchcock, Tati,
Rififi, Richard Lester’s Swinging London era and Roy Andersson’s dry wit permeate this meticulously staged, yet joyously playful piece of fine cinema.
