In a visually distinct and inventive film, with great emphasis on architecture and interiors, we meet Tilda Swinton as a middle-aged wife seemingly safely anchored at the heart of a large and wealthy Milan family.
Still she has an air of being a bit lost and withdrawn in the midst of all the luxury. Like her daughter who experiences a lesbian awakening, she, too, will soon throw herself into an unsuitable love in this haute bourgeoisie environment – she falls hard for a young cook from a completely different social class. Its visual ambition and theme reminiscent of Sally Potter’s
Yes (2004), this is a film that plays on a large scale, creating a dreamy and fluid atmosphere where we cannot always be entirely sure whether what we see really happens.
