Kids Are All Right, The

The teenagers Joni and Laser are half-siblings and live with their respective mothers Nic og Jules, a lesbian couple. They decide to track down their biological father who in his young hippie years made donations to a sperm bank.
Paul, the father, does not turn them away – like the teenagers he wants to develop the relationship. Their mothers are not too excited, however, until Jules, a landscape architect, is engaged by Paul to fix his garden. They start an affair.
Director and screenwriter Cholodenko knows the bohemian life of California’s radical upper middle class well, having portrayed it before. Here she does it with humour but also with a warm gaze at our sexual leanings. The actors clearly love their roles, playing on a wide register, both comically and emotionally. For not everything here is just for fun.
