The Festival Award Winners 2008



Thursday 23 August, the 36th Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund marked its official closing with Erik Poppe’s Troubled Water. The screening of this film served at the same time as the start of the festival’s Nordic film market, New Nordic Films.

With 1600 professional participants, the Norwegian International Film Festival has this year seen a record-breaking response from the film and cinema industry. After the last screening, the attendance figures have reached 35,000, and participants from 35 nations have visited the festival and the market.

The festival awards:

Four film awards were presented during the festival closing ceremony:

The Film Critics Award:
The Class (Entre les murs, France 2008), directed by Laurent Cantet, distributed by Arthaus.
Honorary mention for Troubled Water (Norway 2008) directed by Erik Poppe, distributed by Scanbox.

The Ray of Sunshine Award (“Gledessprederen”):
Happy-Go-Lucky (UK 2008), directed by Mike Leigh, distributed by Sandrew Metronome.
Honorary Mention to 99% Honest (Norway 2008), directed by Rune Denstad Langlo, distributed by Sandrew Metronome and for
A Man Comes Home (Denmark, Sweden 2007), directed by Thomas Vinterberg, distributed by Tour de Force.

The Audience Award:

The Andreas Award:
Troubled Water (Norway 2008) directed by Erik Poppe, distributed by Scanbox.

Three honorary awards were also presented:

The Playing Faun:
The City of Haugesund’s honorary award ”The Playing Faun” was this year presented to two outstanding representatives of the press who through their presence at the Norwegian International Film Festival for many years have contributed to the development both of the festival and its artistic content: Adresseavisen’s longtime journalist, film and theatre critic Martin Nordvik and the British journalist, film critic and writer Derek Malcolm.

The Golden Ribbon:
The Norwegian Cinema Association’s honorary award the Golden Ribbon was presented to Arne Lindtner Næss for his efforts as a director of good family films.
