Masahat Screens 2024 will present films from the Arab world that explore themes of
protest, life under occupation and the struggles of life in exile, with a second part
focusing on films from Sudan. The first part of the program consists of a selection of
four short films by the award-winning Danish-Palestinian filmmaker Mahdi Fleifel (20
Handshakes For Peace (2015, 5 min), A Man Returned (2017, 30 min), 3 Logical
Exists (2020, 14 min) and I Signed the Petition (2018, 10 min)).
The short films will be followed by Some Strings, a selection of videos by filmmakers and artists from around the world, each contributing with a cinematic gesture in honor of the late poet and teacher Refaat Alareer's poem "If I must Die”.
