Young Australian journalist Mel Gibson takes his first assignment in Indonesia during the 1965 coup. As the violence escalates, he has an intense affair with British journalist Sigourney Weaver. Linda Hunt ("Kindergarten Cop," "Pocohantas") won a well-deserved Oscar as Gibson's male photographer friend and jealous rival.
